‘Draw near now to Emmanuel’ – introducing the song you’ll want to be singing this Christmas

Emmanuel means ‘God with us’ and there is no better time to celebrate being in God’s presence than at Christmas. Following a challenging year when some have felt abandoned, forgotten or cast aside – a new and original song is bringing hope.

Written and performed by Lou Key, ‘To Emmanuel’ recalls the story of the first Christmas and invites listeners to experience God’s presence by drawing near to Him in worship. The song is beautifully poetic and the lyrics of the chorus are powerful:

“Come and Worship / The King of Kings / for His majesty is here / Bow before Him / The Son of heaven / For every knee will bow / Come and adore / Draw near now / To Emmanuel.”

Lou Key is a British singer-songwriter who has a vision to release “songs of sanctuary, worship and praise to encourage and strengthen”. You can watch the music video of To Emmanuel below. It was filmed on Scorhill, near Dartmoor in the South West of England.

“My hope is that through this song you are drawn to sense God’s wonderful presence this Christmas season,” Lou says. “Allow the gift of the Saviour to light a flame within you which glows and grows. Experience the warmth and peace of a deep and certain joy!”

Since the music video dropped on 11 December, Lou’s followers on social media including the Lou Key Worship Facebook page have been sharing how much the song means to them.

“Louise Key is beautiful inside and out!” says Dez. “Her new track is a stunning way to get Christmas started.” Yvonne says, “We loved it all. Really touched by the words and the passion in her voice,” while Anthony describes To Emmanuel as ‘a beautiful original song.’

To Emmanuel

You can find To Emmanuel on all major streaming platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music etc. It is also available on Lou Key’s Bandcamp page.

“To Emmanuel heralds the birth of Jesus and His new birth for those that have been in darkness and are being drawn to His ‘Great Light’,” Lou says. “I thank God for His glorious presence roundabout us providing the assurance of Himself PRESENT. I am praying you are drawn To Emmanuel to kneel before Him, our gracious, loving and merciful King of ALL Kings….. who gave everything for you and me.”

It’s not often that we come across a new Christmas song that fills us with the same joy we get from singing our best loved carols, however To Emmanuel certainly accomplishes that. It is a beautiful, original song that everyone will want to be singing this Christmas!
